Chiva Dyo ( चिभा द्यो: )
Chiva Dyo, simply means Chaitya or stupa. “Chiva” refers to stupa and “Dyo” means god. It means a sacred shrine and is found throughout the Kathmandu valley. They are erected as memorials for deceased family members to accumulate merit. They are mostly made from stones in dome shape with “Pancha Buddha” in all its four sides. “Pancha Buddha” means the five Buddha ( Vairochana in center, Akshobhya in east, Ratnasambhava in south, Amitabha in west, and Amoghasiddhi in north. They are also called Dhyani Buddhas and represent distinct aspects of enlightenment, guiding the transformation of negative emotions into positive wisdom.
